KPDN Selangor Imposes RM200,000 Fine On Counterfeit Goods Trader

SHAH ALAM: Enforcement operations carried out under the Kita Gempur campaign by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Selangor have resulted in a RM200,000 fine against a local trader found guilty of dealing in counterfeit goods.

The accused, believed to be in his 30s, pleaded guilty at the Sepang Sessions Court to seven charges under Section 100 of the Trade Marks Act 2019.

Selangor KPDN director Muhamad Hanif Asa’ari said the case involved various products bearing famous trademarks illegally, including clothing, slippers, caps, belts and other fashion accessories.

According to him, the activities were uncovered during a raid conducted at a premises in Telok Panglima Garang, Kuala Langat in April 2022.

“The accused admitted to possessing and controlling goods bearing registered trademarks without authorisation from the rightful owners,” he said in a statement today.

He added that the penalty represents one of the highest fines imposed under the Trade Marks Act 2019 so far in 2026.

The proceedings were heard before Judge Ahmad Fuad Othman while the prosecution was led by Norhashimah Hasim together with Khairul Affandi Md Jani on behalf of KPDN Selangor.

Muhamad Hanif said the ministry would continue strengthening enforcement efforts through the Kita Gempur campaign to ensure compliance with trade laws and protect intellectual property rights.

He also reminded traders not to take advantage by selling counterfeit products that infringe on the rights of legitimate trademark owners registered with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO).

According to him, the sale of counterfeit goods not only violates the law but also negatively affects the economy and consumer confidence.

At the same time, the public was urged to report any information related to unethical trading activities through KPDN’s official channels including the Ez Adu KPDN application and the ministry’s e-complaint portal.
