JPJ Issues 136 Summonses During Joint Enforcement Operation Targeting Foreign Drivers in Kuala Lumpur

PETALING JAYA, July 3 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Kuala Lumpur issued 136 notices for various traffic and vehicle-related offences following a joint enforcement operation targeting foreign drivers at the Kuala Lumpur Wholesale Market yesterday.

The operation, known as Op Pemandu Warga Asing (Op PEWA), was conducted by the Kuala Lumpur JPJ in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT).

Kuala Lumpur JPJ Director Hamidi Adam said enforcement officers inspected a total of 36 vehicles during the operation, with action taken against 20 of them under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333).

He said the inspection uncovered numerous violations involving both drivers and vehicles, leading to the issuance of 136 notices for offences detected throughout the operation.

Among the most common offences identified were driving without a valid driving licence, operating vehicles with expired road tax, failing to maintain valid motor insurance coverage and carrying out unauthorised vehicle modifications.

Hamidi said the operation also resulted in the seizure of several vehicles and machinery for further investigation.

The seized assets comprised seven forklifts, three cars, eight motorcycles and two electric motorcycles.

According to him, the enforcement exercise forms part of JPJ’s continuing efforts to ensure that all motorists, regardless of nationality, comply with Malaysia’s road transport regulations.

He said strict compliance with licensing, vehicle registration and insurance requirements is essential to maintaining road safety and reducing the risk of traffic accidents.

Hamidi added that the joint operation also demonstrated close cooperation between enforcement agencies in monitoring commercial and high-traffic areas where road transport offences are more likely to occur.

He said JPJ will continue carrying out similar integrated enforcement operations to improve compliance with traffic laws while ensuring vehicles operating on public roads meet legal and safety requirements.

Authorities have not disclosed whether further enforcement activities will be conducted at the same location, but investigations involving the seized vehicles are continuing.
