Johor PRN Set to See 2.7 Million Eligible Voters, Says Saifuddin as PH Gears Up for Polls
Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that Johor now has a total of 2,717,495 eligible voters for the upcoming state election following an increase of 100,920 new voters in the state.
The Home Minister said the growing voter base reflects Johor’s increasingly dynamic political landscape and signals the need for political parties to strengthen preparations amid speculation of a possible state election in the near future.
According to him, Johor currently has 1,114 voting districts and 4,997 polling streams that will be utilised during the electoral process once the election is called.
Saifuddin made the remarks while addressing the 2026 convention of Pakatan Harapan at Persada Johor International Convention Centre.
He said the convention was intentionally held in Johor as part of efforts to inject renewed fighting spirit and political readiness among party members and supporters in anticipation of possible electoral developments.
“We need a renewed spirit of struggle due to the possibility of a Johor state election in the near future. That is the main reason the Pakatan Harapan Convention 2026 is being held in Johor,” he said.
Saifuddin also highlighted several major development projects undertaken by the federal government in Johor, describing them as long-term initiatives capable of transforming the state’s economic landscape.
Among the flagship projects mentioned were the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) and the Rapid Transit System Link, both of which are expected to strengthen economic cooperation between Malaysia and Singapore.
He noted that these large-scale projects are anticipated to create employment opportunities, boost investments and position Johor as a major regional economic hub in the coming years.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Sabu, who is also president of Parti Amanah Negara, urged Malaysians to continue supporting the leadership of Anwar Ibrahim to ensure continued political stability and national prosperity.
Mohamad said the current administration should be given the opportunity to complete its mandate before any leadership changes are considered in future elections.
He stressed that political stability remains essential for maintaining investor confidence and ensuring the smooth implementation of national development projects.
In a light-hearted moment during his speech, Mohamad jokingly remarked that he too had aspirations of becoming prime minister one day, while also mentioning Anthony Loke Siew Fook as another prominent figure within the coalition.
Despite the joke, he maintained that Anwar Ibrahim remains the best choice to continue leading the country at this stage.
The remarks by PH leaders were widely viewed as part of broader efforts to consolidate unity within the coalition ahead of potential elections in several states.
Johor continues to be regarded as one of Malaysia’s most strategically important states due to its large voter population, economic significance and close connectivity with Singapore.
Political observers believe the sharp rise in new voters could significantly influence campaign strategies, particularly among younger voters and first-time voters who are increasingly becoming decisive factors in modern Malaysian elections.
