Jalan TAR Bazaar Draws Crowds as Shoppers Rush for Hari Raya Preparations
KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 — The Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman (TAR) bazaar has once again become a hotspot for shoppers preparing for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, with crowds flocking to the iconic shopping district in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
As the end of Ramadan approaches, the area traditionally transforms into one of the busiest festive markets in the capital, offering a wide variety of Raya essentials at competitive prices.
Visitors can find everything from traditional Malay clothing and festive outfits to kuih raya, accessories and decorative items commonly used during the Aidilfitri celebration.
A visit to the bazaar reveals a lively atmosphere filled with shoppers browsing stalls, comparing prices and searching for the perfect outfits and gifts for the upcoming festive season.
The area is not only popular among locals but also attracts international tourists who want to experience Malaysia’s festive shopping culture.
For Nor Zamzarina Abdul Rashid, 45, a quantity surveyor with the Public Works Department, the financial assistance she recently received helped her prepare for the upcoming celebration.
She said the RM500 Special Financial Assistance provided by the government was used to purchase several festive items for her family.
“The assistance helps reduce the burden of festive spending. I came here to buy Raya necessities while my husband went to service the car in preparation for our trip back to Kedah,” she said.
Another visitor, Muhammad Shafwan Mohd Zaidon, 32, said Jalan TAR remains his preferred destination every year because of the wide range of affordable items available.
The social media manager said the vibrant atmosphere in the area also makes shopping there a unique experience compared with other retail locations.
He added that his Raya spending this year has increased after welcoming a newborn child into the family.
“Even though the expenses are higher this year, I still prefer shopping at Jalan TAR because the prices are more reasonable and the variety of items is much better,” he said.
The bazaar’s popularity also extends beyond Malaysia, attracting tourists from neighbouring countries.
Faridah Norsalam, 39, from Brunei, said she visited Jalan TAR with her husband specifically to buy Raya clothing and festive items.
According to her, the bazaar offers a wide selection of traditional outfits that are difficult to find elsewhere.
“I bought several sets of Raya clothes and other festive items to bring back to Brunei,” she said.
Traders operating at the bazaar also reported strong sales as Ramadan enters its final stretch.
Muhammad Farhan Khairul Nizan, 27, who sells traditional clothing such as baju Melayu and kurta, said customer numbers have increased significantly over the past few days.
He expects sales to continue rising as Hari Raya draws closer, with many shoppers making last-minute purchases.
“I believe our stock may sell out soon because the number of visitors keeps increasing every day,” he said.
Farhan added that his stall has attracted not only Malaysian customers but also buyers from overseas, including Europe.
The annual surge of shoppers once again highlights Jalan TAR’s enduring reputation as one of Kuala Lumpur’s most vibrant festive shopping destinations during the Aidilfitri season.
