Immigration Targets Ramadan Bazaars in Nationwide Crackdown

23 Foreign Nationals Detained

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 26 — Malaysia’s Immigration Department has intensified enforcement operations at Ramadan bazaars, detaining 23 foreign nationals suspected of engaging in business activities without valid permits.

Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said enforcement officers conducted inspections at several bazaar locations in the Klang Valley, where 61 foreign nationals were screened.

Initial findings indicated that some individuals were working or operating stalls without proper authorisation.

Zakaria said authorities also discovered cases where foreign nationals were managing stalls registered under local names.

“Ramadan bazaars attract significant business activity, and enforcement is necessary to ensure compliance with immigration laws,” he said.

Enforcement Extends Beyond Bazaar Locations

Zakaria said the Immigration Department is also monitoring other locations where foreign nationals are known to conduct business.

Some of these locations involve informal trading within foreign communities.

He said enforcement efforts will continue to prevent illegal economic activities.

Authorities are committed to identifying and taking action against those who violate the law.

Joint Efforts With Road Transport Department

Zakaria added that Immigration is working closely with the Road Transport Department to investigate cases involving foreign nationals driving without valid licences.

He said reports have highlighted concerns about foreign drivers operating heavy vehicles.

Authorities will take appropriate action against offenders.

Operations to Continue Throughout Ramadan

Zakaria said enforcement operations will continue during Ramadan to ensure all business activities comply with regulations.

He said the department aims to protect legitimate traders and maintain fair competition.

Immigration officials also distributed bubur lambuk to members of the public during the event.

The department reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing immigration laws while engaging with the community.
