Humanitarian Gaza Flotilla Set to Resume Journey Following Technical Delays

PETALING JAYA: The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian convoy is expected to continue its voyage towards Gaza today after several vessels completed repair and maintenance works involving communication equipment and engine systems.

The update was confirmed by Sumud Nusantara Command Center, which stated that the flotilla is currently undergoing temporary operational stops in waters near Greece and Türkiye.

According to the organisation, unstable sea conditions along parts of the mission route had affected navigation and operational planning, prompting technical inspections and repair works on several vessels involved in the mission.

Despite the delay, Sumud Nusantara Command Center stressed that the stopover was purely technical in nature and did not involve activists leaving the ships or entering land territories.

The organisation said all operational preparations are now nearing completion, allowing the flotilla to resume its humanitarian mission towards Gaza once final safety checks are completed.

“The technical stop is temporary and intended to ensure all systems and operational requirements are functioning properly before the mission proceeds,” the statement said.

The humanitarian flotilla mission has drawn significant regional and international attention amid ongoing tensions surrounding Gaza and humanitarian access to the Palestinian territory.

Previous reports indicated that 175 activists, including 10 Malaysians participating in GSF 2.0, were reportedly intercepted in international waters near Crete Island during developments linked to the mission.

At the same time, Sumud Nusantara Command Center urged the public to avoid spreading unverified claims and instead rely on official and credible information sources for updates regarding the mission and Palestine-related developments.

The organisation also encouraged Malaysians to intensify efforts in sharing verified information, countering misinformation and raising awareness on humanitarian issues involving Gaza through various communication platforms.

In addition, Malaysians were encouraged to continue organising special prayers, Qunut Nazilah recitations and spiritual gatherings for the safety of all mission delegates and the success of humanitarian efforts aimed at supporting Gaza.

The flotilla mission remains part of wider international humanitarian initiatives seeking to highlight conditions in Gaza and support affected civilians amid the prolonged regional conflict.
