Google Launches Beta Real-Time Translation via Headphones
SAN FRANCISCO: Google has announced the launch of a beta feature that enables users to listen to real-time language translations through headphones, reinforcing the company’s push to enhance global communication and language learning tools.
Accessible through the Google Translate app, the new feature delivers live audio translations while preserving the speaker’s tone, emphasis and speech rhythm, offering a more natural and immersive listening experience.
According to Google Vice President of Product and Search Rose Yao, the feature is designed for a wide range of use cases, including conversations in foreign languages, attending lectures or speeches abroad, and consuming international media content.
Users simply need to wear headphones, open the Translate app, select “Live translate,” and listen to the translation in their chosen language.
The beta feature is currently rolling out to Android users in the United States, Mexico and India. It supports more than 70 languages and works with all types of headphones. Google said expansion to iOS devices and additional countries is planned for 2026.
