Former SRC Director Tells High Court He Had No Role or Knowledge in RM42 Million Transfers

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 — A former director of SRC International Sdn Bhd told the High Court that he had no knowledge, involvement, or approval authority over the RM42 million transactions at the centre of an ongoing civil lawsuit.

Datuk Mohammed Azhar Osman Khairuddin said he had no access to the company’s bank accounts during his tenure and was not involved in any decisions related to the disputed fund movements.

He gave the testimony during cross-examination by defence counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, who represents former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Denies breach of statutory and fiduciary responsibilities

Mohammed Azhar firmly rejected allegations that he had breached his duties as a company director.

He said the transactions were carried out without his knowledge or participation.

He said he did not authorise or approve any fund disbursements.

He said he could not be held accountable for actions outside his scope of involvement.

Primary role focused on major pipeline projects

He explained that his appointment was specifically related to overseeing the Sabah Gas Pipeline and Peninsular Malaysia Pipeline projects.

He said the RM4 billion loan from Retirement Fund Incorporated had already been received and utilised before his involvement.

He added that financial matters were handled by senior management, including then chief executive officer Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil, who briefed the board.

Civil proceedings against Najib ongoing

The civil suit seeks to hold Najib liable for RM42 million and claims damages for alleged abuse of power and misconduct.

The trial, presided over by Judge Datuk Raja Ahmad Mohzanuddin Shah Raja Mohzan, will continue tomorrow.
