Chow Kit Market thronged as shoppers make final Ramadan preparations
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 — Chow Kit Market was crowded with shoppers today as many rushed to purchase essential food items ahead of the start of Ramadan, creating heavy traffic across the popular wet market.
Observation at the site showed large crowds across most sections, particularly at stalls selling chicken, meat, vegetables and other cooking essentials.
Chicken trader Man said business had improved significantly due to the increased number of customers.
He said customers began arriving early and continued throughout the day.
“Sales have been very good today, with many customers since morning,” he said.
Another trader, Nazren Ramli, said demand had risen sharply over the past few days.
He noted that some customers were buying in bulk to prepare for Ramadan.
“We’ve been extremely busy. Many customers are buying large quantities,” he said.
Trader Anuwar Sazali said customer numbers started increasing over the weekend and grew further as Ramadan approached.
He added that chicken and meat were among the most popular items due to limited fish supply.
Vegetable seller Rizki Hardiansa said demand for ingredients such as lemongrass, ginger and turmeric had also increased.
“These ingredients are essential for Ramadan cooking,” he said.
Shoppers said Chow Kit remains their preferred destination due to affordable prices and wide selection.
Rashdan Razak said the market offers competitive pricing and variety.
Another shopper, Hanzalah Hani, said visiting Chow Kit before Ramadan has become his routine.
Meanwhile, Samsudin Ismail said lower prices help reduce his household expenses.
Some shoppers were also seen purchasing extra supplies to avoid future crowds.
Traders expect the market to remain busy as more people complete their Ramadan shopping.
