Major breakthrough as investigators dismantle suspected criminal network

ALOR SETAR, March 3 — Police have arrested 10 individuals, including a Thai woman, in connection with the shooting incident targeting a senior officer of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) in Bukit Kayu Hitam, marking a significant breakthrough in the high-profile investigation.

Authorities confirmed that the suspects were detained in multiple operations carried out between February 25 and February 28 in the Kubang Pasu district following intensive intelligence gathering and coordinated enforcement action.

Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said investigators believe the suspects are linked to a criminal group known as Geng Pak Su, which is suspected of involvement in organized criminal activities in the border region.

Follow-up raids uncover key suspects and evidence

According to police, three Malaysian men aged between 44 and 58 were among those arrested during follow-up raids conducted by the Kedah Criminal Investigation Department in cooperation with federal police units.

Officers also seized several mobile phones believed to contain information relevant to the planning and execution of the attack.

Preliminary screening revealed that one suspect tested positive for methamphetamine, raising concerns about possible links between drug activity and violent crime.

Further background checks showed that two suspects had previous criminal records, providing investigators with additional leads.

Attack targeted senior border enforcement officer

The shooting occurred at approximately 5.40 am on February 25 when a Proton X70 vehicle driven by AKPS commander SAC Mohd Nasaruddin M. Nasir was fired upon.

The incident took place along a slip road near the Malaysia-Thailand border, an area considered strategically important for national security.

Two attackers riding motorcycles reportedly fired two shots at the vehicle using a semi-automatic weapon before fleeing the scene.

Despite the attack, the officer escaped without serious injury.

Police continue search for weapons and masterminds

Investigators are now focusing on locating the firearm used in the shooting and identifying the roles played by each suspect.

Police believe additional individuals may still be at large and have not ruled out further arrests.

Authorities emphasized that every effort is being made to uncover the full scope of the criminal network.

Border security remains under control

The incident has raised public concern due to its implications for national security.

However, police assured that border areas remain secure and under constant surveillance.

Additional safety measures have been implemented to prevent similar incidents.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that those responsible are held accountable and that border enforcement personnel can carry out their duties safely.
