Bersatu Expels Two Leaders, Suspends Two Others in Latest Disciplinary Action

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) today took disciplinary action against several more party leaders and elected representatives, expelling two individuals and suspending two others with immediate effect.

The party’s Disciplinary Board announced that Kok Lanas assemblyman and Ketereh division chief Mohamed Farid Mohamed Zawawi, along with Parit division Armada chief Wan Meor Safwat Naqiuddin Shamsuddin, had been expelled from the party.

Meanwhile, Mersing MP Muhammad Islahuddin Abas and Bukit Bunga assemblyman as well as Jeli division chief Mohd Almidi Jaafar were suspended from the party for two election terms.

According to the board, the action was taken for violating Clause 9.1.4 of the party constitution as well as Bersatu’s Code of Ethics and Conduct.

When contacted by the media, Muhammad Islahuddin confirmed receiving the suspension letter but said he would not submit an appeal against the decision.

Previously on Friday, Bersatu also took disciplinary action against several other leaders and elected representatives, including Suka Menanti assemblyman Dzowahir Ab Ghani, Sungai Tiang assemblyman Abdul Razak Khamis and Hulu Langat division chief Muhammad Faiz Rahmad.

Five MPs also had their memberships suspended, namely Tanah Merah MP Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz, Rompin MP Abdul Khalib Abdullah, Lumut MP Nordin Ahmad Ismail, Hulu Terengganu MP Rosol Wahid and Ketereh MP Khlir Mohd Nor.

Also suspended were Kuala Sepetang assemblyman Ahmad Man and Chenderoh assemblyman Syed Lukman Hakim Syed Mohd Zain.

In a separate statement, Rosol also confirmed that he would not appeal against the suspension decision.

Meanwhile, Wan Meor Safwat claimed his expulsion was selective in nature because his alleged offence only involved attending the Reset gathering previously.

According to him, other individuals accused of committing similar offences were merely suspended or issued warnings.

He also claimed that he had responded to the show-cause letter issued by the party on April 30, unlike several others who allegedly did not submit any response.

Wan Meor Safwat further alleged that the party is now more focused on protecting certain leaders rather than championing the interests of the people.
