BE in SABAH 2026 Reinforces Sabah’s Role as a Strategic Asia-Pacific Business Events Hub
KOTA KINABALU — The successful hosting of BE in SABAH 2026 has further strengthened Sabah’s position as a key regional hub for business events, fostering international cooperation and long-term economic opportunities.
Held at the Sabah International Convention Centre, the third edition of the forum brought together more than 900 participants from Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Oceania.
Delegates included policymakers, convention bureaux, professional organisers, consultants, academics, venue operators and private sector representatives.
Carrying the theme “Global Collaboration Through Business Events,” the forum highlighted how structured business gatherings serve as platforms for economic diplomacy, investment dialogue and professional capacity building.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Joniston Bangkuai on behalf of the Sabah government.
He said business events now play a critical role in connecting public policy, global expertise and local industry development.
“Sabah is committed to using this sector as a catalyst for sustainable growth, talent development and international engagement,” he said.
Supporting Local Industry and SMEs
He noted that high-profile forums such as BE in SABAH generate spillover benefits for local enterprises, particularly small and medium-sized businesses.
Sectors including hospitality, transport, catering, ICT and logistics gain direct economic value from international events.
Organising Chairperson Datuk Dr Hajah Rosmawati Haji Lasuki said the forum’s continuity reflects growing trust from the global industry.
“BE in SABAH has evolved into a reliable regional platform built on long-term collaboration and shared learning,” she said.
Global Expertise and Knowledge Exchange
This year’s programme featured 33 speakers from 18 countries and territories, covering areas such as event management, digital innovation, leadership development and market strategy.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr Senthil Gopinath, Chief Executive Officer of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).
He stressed the importance of governance, transparency and technological adaptation in maintaining industry competitiveness.
Panel sessions also examined artificial intelligence, data analytics, sustainability, workforce development and organisational resilience.
Strengthening Regional Partnerships
BE in SABAH 2026 also facilitated the exchange of memoranda of understanding between local and international partners, focusing on knowledge transfer, destination development and professional training.
These initiatives are expected to enhance Sabah’s role as a gateway to East ASEAN and the wider Asia-Pacific market.
Jointly organised by Sabah International Convention Centre and MACEOS Sabah Chapter, the forum aligns with Sabah’s broader vision to become a service-driven, innovation-oriented regional hub.
Overall, BE in SABAH 2026 reflects Sabah’s growing capacity to host world-class business events while contributing to sustainable regional development.
