Anwar Seeks Talks With Zahid After Johor BN Decides to Contest State Election Alone
Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his intention to meet Ahmad Zahid Hamidi following the decision by Barisan Nasional Johor to contest the upcoming state election independently.
Anwar said he hopes the meeting will pave the way for constructive discussions and possible negotiations between BN and Pakatan Harapan in order to maintain political cooperation and stability.
According to the prime minister, any misunderstandings or disputes between coalition partners should be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding with the interests of the people placed above political differences.
“I hope to meet the BN chairman, who is also the Umno president, to discuss the current situation in Johor in detail.
“We want to help and rectify the situation if mistakes were made. If there are misunderstandings, disputes will naturally arise. What is important is the willingness to help the people,” he said during a community programme at Taman Desa Mutiara People’s Housing Project (PPR).
The PKR president was responding to Johor BN’s announcement that it intends to contest all 56 state seats on its own in the upcoming Johor state election.
The move has triggered speculation over the future of cooperation between PH and BN at the state level, particularly after both coalitions formed the Unity Government at the federal level.
Despite the development, Anwar indicated that political ties between the two coalitions could still be strengthened through negotiations and mutual understanding.
At the same event, he also urged residents of the Taman Desa Mutiara PPR to continue supporting PH candidates in the coming state election.
Anwar reminded community leaders and elected representatives to consistently engage with the public instead of appearing only during election periods.
He stressed that political leaders must remain close to the people and understand community issues directly to ensure public welfare continues to receive attention.
As part of efforts to improve local living conditions, Anwar also approved an allocation of RM1 million for repair and upgrading works involving community facilities at the housing project.
The allocation is expected to be used for improving public infrastructure and facilities needed by residents in the area.
Johor has increasingly become a major focus in Malaysia’s political landscape amid growing speculation over a possible dissolution of the state assembly to pave the way for fresh elections.
Political observers believe Johor BN’s decision to contest independently could significantly influence the strategies of major political coalitions ahead of the anticipated state polls.
At the same time, Anwar’s willingness to hold discussions with Ahmad Zahid is being viewed as an attempt to preserve political stability and maintain cooperation between PH and BN within the Unity Government framework.
