Anwar Says No Indication of Bersatu Returning to Pakatan Harapan

PETALING JAYA, June 11 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed speculation that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia may be considering a return to Pakatan Harapan, saying there are currently no signs suggesting such a move is being contemplated.

Speaking at the conclusion of his official visit to Japan, Anwar said he had not seen any indication, either publicly or privately, that Bersatu was seeking to rejoin the coalition it once helped form before leaving in 2020.

The issue surfaced following recent political developments involving Bersatu and Parti Islam Se-Malaysia, which sparked speculation about possible realignments within the opposition bloc.

However, Anwar stressed that any political cooperation should be built through proper dialogue and mutual understanding rather than sudden shifts in alliances.

He said meaningful partnerships require careful discussions and a commitment to maintaining trust among political partners.

“We believe in engaging through discussions and building cooperation through constructive negotiations,” he said.

The Prime Minister, who also chairs PH and leads Parti Keadilan Rakyat, added that he would not support any move that could be perceived as undermining or betraying parties currently participating in the Unity Government.

According to him, the federal administration remains stable despite occasional differences of opinion among coalition partners at the state level.

Anwar noted that varying views are common within any broad political coalition and should not automatically be interpreted as signs of instability.

He reiterated that maintaining cooperation among existing partners remains a priority for the government.

Political observers began speculating about Bersatu’s future direction after recent developments involving its relationship with PAS, prompting questions about whether the party could seek new alliances.

Nevertheless, Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz had previously rejected claims that the party was considering a return to PH.

He reportedly stated that no discussions on the matter had taken place either formally or informally within the party’s leadership structure.

Tun Faisal also argued that such speculation was unrealistic given Bersatu’s significant role in the political events that led to the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020.

For now, Anwar said the government’s primary focus remains on economic development, investment growth and improving public welfare rather than responding to ongoing political speculation.

He stressed that preserving political stability is essential for sustaining investor confidence, strengthening economic performance and ensuring long-term national progress.
