AirAsia Branding Arm Set for Nasdaq Debut in US$1.5 Billion Deal, Says Tony Fernandes

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 17 — AirAsia’s branding division is nearing a potential Nasdaq listing through a strategic merger that could value the entity at approximately US$1.5 billion, according to co-founder Tan Sri Tony Fernandes.

He said the move would involve combining the branding arm with a US-listed company, allowing the new entity to gain access to global investors and capital markets.

Fernandes indicated that discussions are in their final stages, with a formal announcement expected in the near future.

Listing aimed at unlocking brand value

Fernandes said the listing is part of a broader effort to unlock the commercial potential of the AirAsia brand.

The division, known as Next, is responsible for managing and expanding the use of the brand.

He explained that the move will help strengthen the company’s overall value.

It will also support diversification beyond airline operations.

AirAsia brand seen as strong global asset

Fernandes said AirAsia’s brand strength, particularly in Southeast Asia, makes it attractive to potential partners.

He noted that the brand could be used in licensing agreements and partnerships.

Such collaborations could generate new revenue streams.

He added that the brand’s reputation provides a competitive advantage.

This enhances its investment appeal.

Major milestone in corporate expansion

If completed, the listing would mark a significant step in AirAsia’s global expansion.

It would also be the company’s first overseas listing involving its branding business.

Fernandes has previously outlined plans to list other non-aviation units.

This forms part of a broader corporate restructuring strategy.

The Nasdaq move highlights international ambitions.

Leadership continuity under discussion

Fernandes also said he is in talks to extend his tenure as Capital A’s chief executive.

He emphasised the importance of leadership stability.

He remains committed to guiding the company’s future.

Fernandes expressed confidence in AirAsia’s long-term prospects.

He said the company is well positioned for continued growth.
