Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Fadillah Yusof call on Muslims to strengthen faith and embrace moderation during Ramadan
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 — Muslims in Malaysia have been encouraged to use Ramadan as an opportunity to deepen their faith, improve their character and practise moderation, particularly by avoiding food wastage.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Ramadan is more than just a time of fasting, but a valuable period for spiritual growth and self-reflection.
In a Facebook post, he said the holy month provides an opportunity for Muslims to increase their acts of worship and repent sincerely.
He stressed that Muslims should take advantage of the month to purify their hearts and strengthen their relationship with others.
“Let us make full use of Ramadan to improve ourselves, increase our devotion and abandon negative behaviour.
“May this Ramadan help us become more pious and committed to doing good, even after the month ends,” he said.
He added that the discipline learned during Ramadan should continue beyond the fasting period.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof reminded Muslims that Ramadan is not only about abstaining from food and drink.
He said it is also a time to strengthen spiritual awareness and humility.
He encouraged Muslims to give charity and help those in need.
According to him, charitable acts help purify the heart and reduce excessive attachment to material wealth.
Fadillah also expressed concern over the increase in food wastage during Ramadan.
He said food waste rises by about 15 to 20 per cent during the fasting month.
He urged Muslims to practise moderation when purchasing food.
“Ramadan teaches discipline and moderation, so buy according to your needs and avoid unnecessary waste,” he said.
He also prayed that Muslims would be blessed with strength and guidance throughout Ramadan.
Fadillah added that Ramadan is an opportunity to strengthen unity and compassion.
He encouraged Muslims to embrace the holy month with sincerity and gratitude.
