Ako Mustapha Says Son Experiencing Psychological Trauma After Alleged School Bullying
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian actor Ako Mustapha has revealed that his 10-year-old son is dealing with emotional distress and psychological trauma following an alleged bullying incident at school, a case that is now under investigation by authorities.
Ako said his son, Mikael Iskandar Mustapha, is currently in stable condition, but medical assessments have uncovered lingering effects beyond initial observations.
He added that the case has attracted the attention of Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, who is expected to meet those involved.
Despite appearing normal at first, Ako said further checks at the hospital revealed that his son had sustained bruises that were not immediately visible.
“A child psychologist also confirmed that he is experiencing mild phobia and psychological trauma due to the incident,” he said.
Ako noted that there has been no contact so far from the parents of the alleged bullies. However, he commended the investigating officer for handling the case professionally and ensuring that all parties are engaged.
“The investigating officer has been very committed, reaching out to everyone involved even early in the morning. I am following their advice as they are more experienced in handling such cases,” he said, adding that he could not disclose further details at this stage.
According to Ako, the incident involved five students — two older pupils and three of the same age group as his son. The situation only came to light after Mikael returned home from school and completed his routine.
Police have since confirmed receiving a report on the case. Wangsa Maju district police chief Annas Sulaiman said investigations are ongoing.
The case has raised broader concerns about bullying in schools and its lasting impact on children’s mental well-being, highlighting the need for coordinated action from authorities, schools and families.
