High-Profile Drug Syndicate Dismantled as Police Seize 18 Luxury Vehicles and Multi-Million Assets
KUALA LUMPUR: A high-profile drug trafficking syndicate operating across the Klang Valley has been dismantled in a major police operation, revealing a sophisticated network involved in large-scale drug distribution and a lifestyle funded by illicit gains.
During the operation, known as Op Empis, authorities seized 18 luxury vehicles, including a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Porsche Taycan 4S and several high-performance Mercedes-Benz AMG models, believed to have been purchased using proceeds from drug trafficking activities.
Director of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, Hussein Omar Khan said the operation resulted in the arrest of 19 individuals, comprising 12 local men, five local women, and two Chinese nationals aged between 24 and 48.
He explained that the arrests were made following sustained intelligence gathering, which led police to multiple key locations, including apartment units in Taman Wahyu and Kepong.
These premises were believed to have been used as operational hubs for storing and processing drugs before distribution throughout the Klang Valley.
“The raids led to the seizure of various types of drugs with an estimated value of RM3.1 million,” he said during a press conference.
Among the substances confiscated were 31.8kg of ketamine, 4.2kg of Erimin 5, 0.89kg of ecstasy pills, and 6.5kg of MDMA.
Further investigations revealed that the syndicate operated under the guise of a money-changing business, which served as a front to conceal its illegal operations.
Hussein noted that the group is believed to have been active since early this year and operated with a structured hierarchy, involving a leader, storekeepers, runners, and distributors.
“The 12th suspect has been identified as the mastermind coordinating the entire operation,” he said.
Urine screening tests showed that three suspects tested positive for drug use, while five individuals had prior criminal records.
Four suspects have been remanded for seven days under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while seven others are being detained under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.
Eight individuals have been released on police bail to assist with further investigations.
In addition to narcotics, authorities seized high-value assets including jewellery, gold bars, luxury watches, branded handbags, and laptops, with a total estimated value of RM11.05 million.
Cash amounting to approximately RM4.9 million in multiple currencies was also confiscated, believed to be proceeds from illegal activities.
According to Hussein, the quantity of drugs seized is capable of affecting around 151,000 users, highlighting the scale and reach of the syndicate.
“Police will continue to intensify efforts to dismantle drug networks and ensure such criminal activities are eradicated,” he said.
