
SC Appoints Datuk Manoj Kurup as Executive Director of Enforcement
PETALING JAYA, April 8 — Suruhanjaya Sekuriti Malaysia (SC) has announced the appointment of Manoj Kurup as its new Executive Director of Enforcement, effective immediately, reinforcing the regulator’s leadership in safeguarding Malaysia’s capital market integrity.
He succeeds Budiman Lutfi Mohamed, who was recently appointed as a Judicial Commissioner of the High Court of Malaya effective April 1.
In a statement, SC highlighted that Manoj brings with him over three decades of legal experience, spanning judicial service and public prosecution, positioning him as a highly seasoned figure in Malaysia’s legal landscape.
He began his legal career in 1990 and has since held several key positions, most notably serving as Head of the Prosecution Division at the Jabatan Peguam Negara Malaysia prior to his retirement in 2024.
Before that, he also led the Appeals Division and was involved in handling numerous high-profile cases. Notably, he was part of Malaysia’s prosecution team in the joint investigation into the Malaysia Airlines MH17 tragedy, which drew global attention.
Beyond his prosecutorial work, Manoj has also contributed at the policy level, including serving as a board member of the Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia.
Academically, he holds a Master of Laws (Prosecution) from the University of Wollongong and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Glamorgan.
He is also a Barrister-at-Law of Gray’s Inn and holds a Diploma in Mediation from the Asian International Arbitration Centre, further strengthening his credentials in dispute resolution.
SC Chairman Mohammad Faiz Azmi described the appointment as a strategic move to enhance the commission’s enforcement capabilities.
He noted that Manoj’s extensive expertise and leadership are expected to strengthen SC’s efforts in upholding market integrity and protecting investors.
At the same time, he expressed appreciation to Budiman for his valuable contributions to the commission since July 2022.
The appointment reflects SC’s continued commitment to strengthening governance and enforcement frameworks, ensuring sustained confidence in Malaysia’s capital market ecosystem.
