Over 6,000 Police Officers Deployed Nationwide for Aidilfitri Safety Patrols
PETALING JAYA, March 15 — More than 6,000 police officers will be deployed nationwide to strengthen patrols in residential areas and high-risk locations ahead of the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays.
Royal Malaysia Police said the deployment is part of a broader security strategy aimed at preventing crime and ensuring public safety during the festive season when many Malaysians travel back to their hometowns.
Director of the Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department, Mohd. Yusri Hassan Basri, said a total of 6,132 personnel will be involved in the nationwide patrol operations.
The security effort will be supported by 3,375 patrol vehicles, including both motorcycle patrol units and multi-purpose patrol vehicles.
According to Mohd. Yusri, the assets include 1,732 motorcycles from the Unit Rondaan Bermotosikal (URB) and 1,643 multi-purpose patrol vehicles (MPV) deployed across various states.
“These patrol operations are aimed at preventing criminal activities such as house break-ins, which tend to increase when many residents leave their homes during the festive period,” he said.
He made the remarks during a press briefing after attending the Frontliner Appreciation Iftar Convoy programme held at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters.
The police will focus not only on residential neighbourhoods but also on areas that are frequently identified as crime hotspots.
In addition, patrols will be intensified along major highways and busy roads expected to experience heavy traffic as millions of Malaysians travel during the festive season.
Authorities said the presence of police personnel on the roads is also intended to assist motorists and ensure smoother traffic flow.
Mohd. Yusri urged members of the public who plan to leave their homes for extended periods to notify the police beforehand.
This can be done by filling out a “balik kampung” notification form at the nearest police station or through the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) mobile application.
The application allows residents to inform police that their homes will be unoccupied so that patrol units can monitor the area more frequently.
“Information submitted through the app enables our officers to schedule patrols more effectively, particularly in areas that have previously recorded higher crime rates,” he explained.
He also advised residents to take additional safety precautions before leaving their homes, including securing doors and windows and informing trusted neighbours of their travel plans.
Such measures, he said, would complement police patrol efforts and help reduce the likelihood of criminal incidents.
The Royal Malaysia Police regularly intensifies security operations during major festive seasons in order to maintain public safety and provide peace of mind for travelling families.
With thousands of officers and patrol vehicles mobilised nationwide, authorities hope the enhanced presence will deter criminal activities and ensure Malaysians can celebrate Aidilfitri safely.
