Sanusi Describes Ahmad Samsuri as Open-Minded Islamic Technocrat, Right Choice to Lead Perikatan Nasional

ALOR SETAR, Feb 23 — Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has described newly appointed Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar as an Islamic technocrat with an open mind, strong principles, and a calm leadership style suited to current political demands.

Sanusi said Ahmad Samsuri possesses a unique leadership character that has earned him respect and acceptance among many, highlighting his composed personality, measured decision-making approach, and strong interpersonal skills.

He noted that Ahmad Samsuri’s ability to engage comfortably with people from different backgrounds and political beliefs reflects his strength as a modern political leader.

“He is approachable, open-minded, and able to interact with people regardless of their political views.

“He also understands the science and art of politics, which is essential in today’s political environment,” he said in a statement today.

Appointment seen as timely and strategic

Sanusi emphasised that Ahmad Samsuri’s appointment as PN chairman was a timely and appropriate decision aligned with the coalition’s current needs.

The decision was finalised during a special meeting attended by key PN component leaders, including PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, Gerakan president Dominic Lau, and Malaysian Indian People’s Party president P. Punithan.

His appointment ended speculation over the coalition’s leadership following Muhyiddin’s resignation, which took effect on Jan 1.

Political experience and broad networks strengthen leadership

Sanusi said Ahmad Samsuri’s decade-long experience as political secretary to the PAS president enabled him to build extensive networks and strategic connections.

He added that this exposure played a role in strengthening the party’s image and improving its acceptance among urban voters and the middle class.

“His approach helped reshape perceptions and opened new opportunities for the party to engage wider segments of society,” he said.

Sanusi also highlighted Ahmad Samsuri’s success in establishing connections with non-Malay and non-Muslim political groups, contributing to a more inclusive political image.

Strong academic and professional background

Beyond politics, Ahmad Samsuri has developed broad professional and academic networks throughout his career, which Sanusi said has enhanced his leadership effectiveness.

These connections allow him to gain diverse perspectives and insights when making political decisions and planning strategies.

Sanusi noted that Ahmad Samsuri has never actively sought positions but has always been willing to accept responsibility when entrusted with leadership roles.

“He is always prepared to serve and fulfil his responsibilities when called upon,” he said.

Ahmad Samsuri’s appointment is expected to strengthen PN’s leadership and shape the coalition’s political direction in the coming years.
