
Chinese New Year celebrations highlight Malaysia’s strong multicultural unity
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 17 — Chinese New Year festivities celebrated nationwide have once again demonstrated the close bonds shared among Malaysians of different backgrounds, reflecting the country’s enduring multicultural harmony.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he attended a Chinese New Year open house hosted by the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) at Wisma MCA, where Malaysians from various communities gathered to mark the occasion.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was among the prominent figures present, along with MCA leaders and other invited guests.
Ahmad Zahid said the festive atmosphere, enriched by cultural performances and traditional cuisine, reflected the true character of Malaysia as a nation built on diversity and mutual respect.
He added that such celebrations provide meaningful opportunities for Malaysians to interact and strengthen their social connections.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Nancy Shukri said visiting friends during the festive season helps preserve friendships and maintain social bonds.
She said these interactions allow people to reconnect and reinforce relationships that may otherwise weaken due to busy lifestyles.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming described Malaysia’s cultural diversity as a valuable national asset that promotes unity.
He also shared festive goodwill by distributing mandarin oranges to ministry personnel in conjunction with the celebration.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Armizan Mohd Ali also took time to visit a longtime acquaintance in Sabah, highlighting the importance of maintaining meaningful personal connections.
He encouraged Malaysians to embrace the symbolic spirit of the Year of the Fire Horse, which represents courage and determination.
Plantation and Commodities Minister Noraini Ahmad said festive celebrations serve as an important platform for strengthening unity and fostering closer ties.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek expressed hope that the unity and goodwill demonstrated during Chinese New Year would continue to contribute to Malaysia’s social harmony.
