Internal Turmoil in Bersatu Deepens as Lembah Pantai, Larut Divisions Dissolve Over Leadership Dispute

KUALA LUMPUR – Internal tensions within Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia have intensified following the immediate dissolution of its Lembah Pantai and Larut divisions, citing a loss of confidence in party president Muhyiddin Yassin.

The announcement, delivered through an official video statement, signals growing dissatisfaction within party ranks after recent disciplinary actions against senior leaders.

Larut division deputy chief Mohd Noh Md Daud stated that the decision was made after securing unanimous backing from leadership at multiple levels within the division. He said 48 branches under the Larut division endorsed the dissolution.

The move comes in the wake of the dismissal of Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin and Larut division chief Mohd Hassundi Hamzah, developments that appear to have intensified internal friction.

Mohd Noh described the dissolution as a collective response to what he characterised as diminishing confidence in the party’s current direction.

Lembah Pantai Follows Suit

In a separate broadcast, Lembah Pantai chief Datuk Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin confirmed that his division had also decided to dissolve voluntarily. He indicated that a formal notification would be submitted to the party headquarters.

Despite the withdrawal, Muqharabbin expressed appreciation for the opportunities afforded during his tenure and pledged to continue serving the local community through alternative platforms, including non-governmental organisations.

Wave of Dismissals Sparks Wider Fallout

The dissolutions follow Bersatu’s recent decision to expel 17 members, including several Supreme Council leaders and elected representatives, for alleged breaches of Clause 9.1.4 of the party constitution.

Among those dismissed were Hamzah, who serves as Opposition Leader in Parliament, Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, Padang Rengas MP Kapten Azahari Hasan and Gerik MP Fathul Huzir Ayob.

Additional dismissals involved Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin, Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub and Yunus Nurdin. The affected members have been granted 14 days to appeal the decision to the party’s Appeals Board.

The dissolution of two key divisions underscores mounting internal discord within Bersatu, raising questions about party cohesion and leadership stability at a critical juncture in Malaysia’s political landscape.
