Anwar’s Hindi Singing Goes Viral in India, Says Modi
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has gone viral in India after a video of him singing a Hindi song captured widespread public attention.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the gesture reflects Malaysia’s deep respect for Indian culture and arts.
“People in India were delighted when the video of him singing a classic Hindi song went viral. It was even more impressive that he also appreciates Tamil songs by legendary actor M.G. Ramachandran,” Modi said.
He made the remarks during his keynote address at a gathering with the Indian community at the The Mines Convention Centre, held in conjunction with his two-day official visit to Malaysia.
Previously, a video of Anwar singing the iconic song ‘Dost Dost Na Raha’ at the Taj Hotel in New Delhi during his 2024 visit had attracted massive online attention.
At the event, Modi also expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by Anwar upon his arrival.
“He personally welcomed me at the airport, drove me here in his own car, and even sat beside me. This shows his affection and respect for India and the Indian community,” Modi said, drawing loud applause from the audience.
Modi further praised Anwar’s strong reform agenda and his leadership role as ASEAN Chair in 2025.
He noted that Anwar’s leadership has helped strengthen Malaysia-India relations not only in trade and investment, but also in cultural exchanges and people-to-people ties.
