SK Janda Baik Students Showcase Cultural Heritage Through Compang Performance for Pahang Crown Prince

BENTONG — A traditional compang performance by 18 students from Sekolah Kebangsaan Janda Baik, Bentong, added colour and cultural significance to the welcoming ceremony for Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah during the official opening of the Mohd Chan Group Restaurant in Genting Highlands recently.

The energetic and well-coordinated performance reflected the students’ dedication and respect for royal traditions, while highlighting the continued relevance of Malay cultural heritage among younger generations. Their disciplined presentation and confident stage presence impressed guests and dignitaries attending the event.

The ceremony also marked a significant milestone for Mohd Chan Group, which received ASEAN Record recognition as the region’s first and largest Chinese Muslim-owned restaurant chain, coinciding with the launch of its 28th outlet. The achievement reinforced Malaysia’s growing reputation in the halal food industry.

Senior Assistant for Student Affairs at SK Janda Baik, Siti Norfaizah Hashim, said the students’ participation provided invaluable real-life learning experiences beyond classroom education. She noted that exposure to royal customs and formal events helps nurture confidence, discipline and positive character traits.

She added that continuous training prior to the performance enabled students to develop teamwork, leadership and responsibility. Such cultural activities, she explained, play a crucial role in shaping well-rounded individuals with strong social and communication skills.

The event also reflected close cooperation between schools, local communities and royal institutions in preserving cultural identity and promoting social harmony. It demonstrated how education can integrate tradition with modern development.

The successful performance by SK Janda Baik students stands as proof that cultural-based education remains a powerful tool in producing confident, responsible and future-ready citizens.
