TEMAN TEKUN Channels Over RM25 Million to Sabah Entrepreneurs, Boosting Micro Business Growth

MEMBAKUT: The TEMAN financing scheme under TEKUN Nasional recorded strong performance in Sabah last year after disbursing RM25.17 million to local entrepreneurs, exceeding its initial target of RM21.94 million.

The achievement reflects growing confidence among business owners in government-backed financing facilities and highlights the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to strengthen the micro and small enterprise sector.

Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Mohamad Alamin said the figures showed that Sabah entrepreneurs were becoming increasingly proactive in using available funding to expand and modernise their businesses.

He added that the ministry and TEKUN Nasional would continue to enhance support mechanisms to ensure entrepreneurs remain competitive in a rapidly changing market environment.

“Our goal is to ensure that micro and small entrepreneurs, especially in rural areas, have continuous access to financing, training, and professional guidance,” he said during the TEMAN TEKUN engagement programme.

Strong National Momentum

Mohamad noted that at the national level, TEMAN TEKUN recorded total financing of RM162.05 million, surpassing the RM155 million target.

He said this demonstrated the scheme’s effectiveness in stimulating grassroots economic growth and strengthening financial stability among small business owners.

The government, he stressed, remains committed to ensuring that entrepreneurs across all regions benefit from national development initiatives.

Promoting Digital Business Adoption

Beyond financing, the programme also emphasised business development and digital transformation.

Information booths were set up to provide entrepreneurs with direct access to financing details, advisory services, and technical support.

Digital marketing and TikTok Shop booths were also introduced to expose participants to online selling platforms and modern promotional strategies.

Mohamad said digital adoption has become essential for business sustainability.

“Entrepreneurs who embrace digital tools and online marketing will be better positioned to expand their market reach and remain resilient,” he added.

Building a Resilient Sabah Economy

He also said TEKUN Nasional Sabah would intensify outreach programmes, entrepreneurship training, and financial support initiatives.

These efforts aim to help more local entrepreneurs increase income, strengthen business networks, and develop sustainable enterprises.

Economic observers view the strong financing performance as a positive sign that Sabah’s entrepreneurial ecosystem is maturing and increasingly capable of driving long-term regional growth.
