Iran Issues Fresh Warning to US, Urges Caution Amid Heightened Regional Tensions

KUALA LUMPUR: Iran’s military leadership has renewed its warning to the United States, urging Washington to avoid strategic miscalculations that could trigger a strong response from Tehran as tensions in the Middle East remain high.

Iranian Army Commander Amir Sartip K. Heydari said the US must act prudently and responsibly to prevent any action that could escalate into military confrontation.

Speaking to state broadcaster IRIB News, he stressed that any misjudgement of Iran’s defence capabilities would carry serious regional consequences.

“The United States must think carefully and act wisely. Any miscalculation will be met with a firm response,” he said at a press briefing in Tehran.

Rising Military Presence in Key Waterways

His remarks come as the US continues to strengthen its naval presence in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, deploying warships and strategic assets since late last year.

Security analysts note that the region is a critical corridor for global energy shipments, making it highly vulnerable to geopolitical tensions.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has previously warned that any attack on Iran could spark a wider regional conflict.

He reiterated that Iran would firmly defend its sovereignty against external threats.

CENTCOM Alert and Iranian Response

Earlier, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) issued a public alert over alleged live-fire drills by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian officials dismissed the claims, calling them misleading and politically motivated.

International media have also reported the deployment of US aircraft carriers in the Arabian Sea as part of Washington’s deterrence posture, though exact locations remain undisclosed.

Long-Running Rivalry

Relations between Tehran and Washington have remained strained for decades, particularly over Iran’s nuclear programme and regional influence.

Last year, the US launched strikes on nuclear-related facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan during heightened tensions involving Israel and Iran.

Those incidents intensified global concerns over the risk of a broader military conflict.

Calls for De-escalation

International observers argue that the sharp rhetoric from both sides reflects fragile regional stability and underscores the urgent need for diplomatic engagement.

They emphasise that sustained dialogue and confidence-building measures are essential to prevent misunderstandings that could lead to armed confrontation.

Experts also warn that any major escalation would have far-reaching implications for global energy markets, trade flows, and political stability.

Overall, Iran’s latest warning signals its readiness to defend national interests while cautioning that any misstep by Washington could have serious regional and global repercussions.
