Essential Aid Brings Relief to 300 Puchong Permai Residents Ahead of Festive Season

PETALING JAYA: A total of 300 low-income residents at Pangsapuri Puchong Permai in Puchong recently received essential food and household supplies through a community outreach programme organised by Persatuan Pembangunan Masyarakat dan Alam Selangor (Hands).

The initiative aimed to ease the financial burden faced by vulnerable families, particularly ahead of Ramadan and the Chinese New Year, periods that often involve increased household spending.

Items distributed included rice, fresh vegetables, cooking oil, dry food, and other daily necessities to help families meet their basic needs.

Hands president Dr. R. Kannan said the programme was made possible through close cooperation with NGOs, residents’ committees, and concerned individuals.

He noted that the initiative reflected strong community solidarity and collective responsibility.

“These contributions come from various parties who care about the welfare of residents here. Even small gestures can make a big difference to families struggling with rising living costs,” he said.

Long-Term Commitment to Community Welfare

Dr. Kannan explained that the programme marked Hands’ sixth major activity this year, following nearly eight years of continuous community engagement.

Over the years, the organisation has implemented various welfare initiatives across Selangor, including food distribution, educational support, and community development programmes.

He said such efforts were part of Hands’ long-term mission to ensure disadvantaged groups are not left behind.

The organisation is also planning larger-scale aid programmes in the coming months to reach more beneficiaries during major festive periods.

Residents Welcome Timely Assistance

Several residents expressed gratitude for the support, describing it as timely and meaningful amid rising living costs.

A single mother, who declined to be named, said the supplies helped her reduce monthly expenses and better manage her household budget.

“With prices going up, it is getting harder every month. This support gives us some breathing space,” she said.

Other residents hoped similar initiatives would continue, especially for elderly residents, large families, and those with unstable incomes.

Strengthening Urban Support Networks

Social observers view programmes like this as crucial in strengthening support networks in urban communities affected by economic pressures.

Collaboration between NGOs, local residents, and private donors is seen as key to building a more sustainable welfare ecosystem.

Overall, the aid programme at Puchong Permai Apartments has helped improve residents’ quality of life while reinforcing values of compassion, solidarity, and shared responsibility within the community.
