Kedah Bersatu Exco Says State Administration Remains Stable Despite PAS-Bersatu Split
ALOR SETAR: The recent political fallout between PAS and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has generated significant attention nationwide, but members of the Kedah state administration insist that government operations remain unaffected and continue to function as usual.
Kedah Welfare, Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Datuk Halimaton Shaadiah Saad said there has been no sense of discomfort among state executive councillors despite the changing political landscape, stressing that cooperation within the state government remains strong.
According to her, years of working together under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) banner have fostered close relationships among members of the state administration, enabling them to focus on governance rather than political differences.
She said the working environment within the state executive council continues to be professional and constructive, with all members sharing the common objective of delivering effective services to the people of Kedah.
“We have worked together for a long time and have developed a strong sense of mutual respect. Our responsibility is to serve the people, and that remains our priority regardless of developments taking place at the political level.
“In the state administration, we view ourselves as a team focused on implementing policies and programmes that benefit the rakyat,” she said after attending the Kedah State Executive Council meeting.
The Bukit Kayu Hitam assemblywoman noted that Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md. Nor has consistently emphasised unity and professionalism within the administration.
She said Sanusi does not differentiate between executive councillors based on party affiliation when dealing with matters of governance, allowing the state government to continue operating smoothly despite recent political developments.
While acknowledging the uncertainty surrounding future political arrangements, Halimaton Shaadiah said she remains committed to carrying out her duties until directed otherwise by the party leadership.
According to her, senior Bersatu leaders have advised party representatives currently serving in state governments to continue performing their responsibilities and maintain stability within their respective administrations.
“At this stage, we have been told to carry on with our work as usual. There are still many programmes and initiatives that require attention, and our focus remains on delivering for the people,” she said.
She explained that several important initiatives under her portfolio are currently being implemented, including programmes aimed at empowering women, strengthening community welfare and enhancing social development across the state.
The issue gained attention after Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi announced that Bersatu representatives serving in the state executive council would retain their positions despite the latest political developments involving PAS and Bersatu.
Besides Halimaton Shaadiah, Bersatu’s representation in the state administration also includes Mohd Salleh Saidin, who oversees the tourism, culture and entrepreneurship portfolio.
Meanwhile, Dzowahir Ab Ghani continues to serve as a state executive councillor despite previously being removed from Bersatu, further underscoring the state government’s decision to prioritise administrative continuity.
Political observers view the decision to retain the existing executive council lineup as a strategic move aimed at preserving stability and ensuring ongoing development projects are not disrupted.
As Kedah continues to navigate evolving political dynamics, state leaders appear determined to maintain focus on governance, economic growth and public welfare, while leaving broader political questions to party leadership at the national level.
For now, the message from the state administration is clear: government business will continue uninterrupted, and efforts to serve the people of Kedah remain the top priority despite shifting political alliances.
