Mohamad Sabu Pledges Continued Support for Putra Heights Residents Affected by Gas Pipeline Blast
PETALING JAYA, June 10 — The welfare of residents affected by last year’s gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights will remain a key concern, with Member of Parliament for Kota Raja, Mohamad Sabu, pledging to continue advocating for those still struggling to rebuild their lives.
He said many families remain affected by the aftermath of the disaster despite a year having passed since the incident occurred.
According to Mohamad, the tragedy should not be viewed as a closed chapter simply because time has passed, as many residents continue to face challenges in recovering from the losses they suffered.
He noted that behind every damaged home is a family working to regain stability after losing property, security and a sense of normalcy.
The MP recently met representatives from the Putra Heights community to obtain updates on the current situation and hear firsthand accounts of issues that remain unresolved.
The engagement allowed him to better understand the ongoing concerns of affected residents and discuss possible avenues for assistance and support.
Mohamad said the meeting reinforced the importance of ensuring that affected families continue to receive attention from relevant authorities and agencies.
He stressed that efforts to champion the welfare of the community would continue, particularly in addressing outstanding issues that may still be affecting residents.
According to him, the focus remains on ensuring that those impacted receive the support necessary to recover and move forward with their lives.
He also emphasised that the concerns of residents must continue to be raised with the appropriate stakeholders to ensure fair and comprehensive solutions are achieved.
The explosion occurred on April 1 last year, during the second day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, when a major gas pipeline fire broke out in Putra Heights.
The incident involved a gas pipeline owned by Petroliam Nasional Berhad stretching approximately 500 metres and erupted at around 8am.
Flames from the blaze rose high into the sky and were reportedly visible from several kilometres away, creating panic among nearby residents.
A total of 85 houses were affected by the disaster, while many residents were relocated to temporary evacuation centres as a safety precaution.
The incident remains one of the most significant infrastructure-related disasters experienced by the local community and continues to have a lasting impact on those affected.
