Saiful Apek Reveals Difficult Past, Hopes To Inspire Struggling Youth

SHAH ALAM: Malaysian comedian and actor Saiful Apek said he never expected his personal reflections and motivational posts on social media to resonate strongly with many people, especially young individuals facing emotional and financial struggles.

Apek, whose real name is Muhammad Saiful Azam Mohamed Yusoff, said the advice and encouragement he shares are drawn entirely from his own life experiences rather than an attempt to seek praise or recognition.

According to him, his role as an entertainer has always been closely tied to bringing hope and positivity to others, although his approach today is more mature and reflective compared to his earlier comedic style.

“Making people happy has always been part of who I am. In the past, I did it through comedy and entertainment, but now it comes through life experiences and motivational sharing,” he said during a press conference for the Nasyid Friday programme in Shah Alam.

Saiful Apek admitted that he initially doubted whether people would take advice from a comedian seriously.

However, the overwhelming response from social media users encouraged him to continue sharing meaningful messages, particularly for those struggling with emotional stress and personal hardships.

He said many followers have privately reached out to him to share feelings of hopelessness, mental exhaustion and family-related difficulties.

“Some people feel their lives are too difficult and they no longer know how to move forward. I try to encourage them not to give up easily,” he said.

Speaking about his own past struggles, Apek revealed that the motivational messages he writes are based on genuine hardships he endured, including periods of homelessness and severe financial difficulties.

“I went through an extremely difficult phase in life. I was insulted, slandered and even survived at one point by eating leftover food that others had thrown away,” he said.

He hopes his story can inspire others to realise that it is possible to rebuild one’s life despite experiencing failure and painful challenges.

In another development, Saiful Apek will be participating in the spiritual-themed Nasyid Friday project founded by Adnin Roslan, which will run from June 2026 until January next year.

The programme will also feature local performers and nasyid groups including Aniq Muhai, One Path, Rabithah and Autotune Band.
