PN Congratulates Thalapathy Vijay Following TVK’s Tamil Nadu Election Victory

PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional has extended its congratulations to Indian film star Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, after successfully forming the Tamil Nadu state government following their recent election victory.

Perikatan Nasional secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the victory reflected public confidence in the leadership and political vision presented by Vijay.

According to him, the party’s focus on reforms, social justice, unity, youth empowerment and modernisation played a major role in Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s success in the state election.

He added that the party also gained support through its rejection of divisive and discriminatory politics.

“As a film icon widely recognised as Thalapathy Vijay, he is greatly admired in Malaysia, especially among the Indian community and younger generation, because of his achievements in entertainment and his humanitarian image.

“His rise in politics has also attracted strong interest due to the long-standing historical, cultural and linguistic ties between Tamil Nadu and the Indian community in Malaysia,” he said in a media statement today.

Takiyuddin Hassan said Perikatan Nasional hopes Vijay will continue leading Tamil Nadu towards greater progress, stability and prosperity.

Earlier reports stated that Vijay was sworn in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam secured majority support in the state assembly.

In the election, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam emerged as the largest party with 108 seats before its total was reduced to 107 after one seat was vacated.

Subsequent negotiations were then held with smaller parties to secure enough support to form the state government.

Indian National Congress became the first party to declare support through its five state assembly representatives.

Meanwhile, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Indian Union Muslim League also pledged support through two assembly members each.

The combined backing raised support for Vijay’s administration to 120 seats, surpassing the simple majority threshold of 118 seats.
