Klang Valley Highways Hit by Severe Congestion After Flash Floods
PETALING JAYA — Flash floods caused by heavy rain across the Klang Valley today led to major traffic disruptions on several highways, with thousands of motorists caught in lengthy congestion during the evening rush hour.
The first incident was reported at approximately 4.14pm on the New Pantai Expressway involving the Kuchai Link route heading towards the expressway.
Rising floodwaters reportedly submerged the roadway within a short period, causing all lanes at the affected stretch to become inaccessible to vehicles.
Traffic movement slowed drastically as motorists struggled to navigate flooded sections while many others were forced to stop completely.
Flooding Forces Temporary Closure on KESAS
In another incident, Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia confirmed that flash floods also struck the Shah Alam Expressway near KM48.0 close to the Awan Besar Interchange heading eastbound from Kinrara.
Authorities said floodwaters inundated the area, forcing the temporary closure of all lanes to ensure the safety of road users.
The closure triggered congestion stretching nearly four kilometres as traffic quickly built up along the affected highway.
Several nearby roads also experienced heavier traffic conditions as drivers diverted from flooded routes in search of alternative paths.
Motorists Urged to Follow Safety Instructions
The highway authority advised all motorists to remain cautious, particularly when travelling through flood-prone areas during periods of heavy rain.
Drivers were reminded to comply with instructions from enforcement officers and emergency personnel stationed at affected locations.
Road users were also encouraged to consider alternate routes and delay non-essential travel if conditions continued to worsen.
Despite the widespread disruption, authorities confirmed that no injuries or accidents had been reported in relation to the flooding incidents as of the latest update.
Traffic conditions, however, are expected to remain challenging until water levels fully recede and roads are declared safe for normal use.
The latest flash floods add to growing concerns over recurring drainage and flooding issues affecting major urban highways in the Klang Valley during intense rainfall.
