Anwar Calls on Youth to Strengthen Geopolitical Awareness, Stay Vigilant Against Misinformation

JOHOR BAHRU, April 25 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has urged young Malaysians to build a deeper understanding of geopolitics and global developments as they navigate an increasingly uncertain economic and international landscape.

He stressed that stronger awareness is essential to help youth avoid being influenced by misleading information, particularly on social media platforms.

Youth Must Develop Informed Perspectives

Anwar said the younger generation should cultivate the ability to interpret current issues thoughtfully rather than accepting information at face value.

He highlighted information literacy as a critical skill in an era shaped by rapid information exchange and competing narratives.

Avoid Quick Judgements Based on Limited Information

He cautioned that forming conclusions based on incomplete information can be harmful and may disrupt social cohesion.

Such tendencies, he said, do not reflect the level of maturity expected in a well-informed society.

Encouraging Analytical Thinking and Openness

Anwar emphasised the importance of nurturing analytical thinking, encouraging young people to examine issues carefully and remain open to diverse perspectives.

He noted that geopolitical developments have direct implications for national stability and economic resilience.

Proposal for Tighter NGO Oversight

On a separate matter, the prime minister proposed stricter regulatory oversight for non-governmental organisations and charitable bodies involved in public fundraising.

He said this is necessary to prevent misuse of funds and ensure transparency.

Warning Against Exploitation of Religion

Anwar also warned against individuals or groups exploiting religion for personal gain, particularly in fundraising activities.

He stressed that firm action is needed to safeguard public trust and uphold institutional integrity.
