UMW Aerospace Delivers Fully Malaysian-Made Rear Fan Case to Rolls-Royce, Strengthening Global Supply Role

KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 — UMW Aerospace has successfully delivered its first rear fan case produced entirely in Malaysia to Rolls-Royce plc, marking a key milestone in the country’s aerospace manufacturing journey.

The achievement highlights Malaysia’s growing capability in high-precision engineering and reinforces its role in the global aerospace supply chain.

Ongoing Partnership Expands Production Capabilities

According to Sime UMW, the programme represents the company’s second contract with Rolls-Royce, following its earlier involvement in supplying front fan cases.

This development expands UMW Aerospace’s role into producing critical engine components that were previously manufactured outside Malaysia.

As a result, both front and rear fan cases are now fully produced domestically.

Milestone Recognised by Industry Leaders

The milestone was celebrated at a ceremony in Serendah attended by Selangor Crown Prince Tengku Amir Shah and Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, along with industry stakeholders and government officials.

The event underscored the significance of the achievement for Malaysia’s advanced manufacturing sector.

End-to-End Manufacturing Framework Established

UMW Aerospace stated that the programme involved developing a comprehensive production framework, including specialised manufacturing processes, tooling systems and rigorous inspection standards.

These advancements have enabled the company to move into consistent serial production.

Advanced Technology Investment Enhances Capability

The company has strengthened its capabilities through investment in advanced chemical milling technology, making it the only company in Malaysia with such expertise.

The technology was developed internally, with intellectual property fully owned by UMW Aerospace, boosting its competitive advantage.

Government Support and Talent Development Drive Growth

Sime UMW highlighted the role of the Selangor state government in supporting the development of advanced manufacturing capabilities.

The company also emphasised its commitment to talent development through partnerships with local universities and technical institutions, enabling the creation of a fully Malaysian workforce.
