130% Sales Jump on TikTok Shop Highlights Strength of Malaysia’s Digital SME Sector
PETALING JAYA: Local micro, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) recorded a significant sales increase of over 130 percent on TikTok Shop during the Ramadan and Hari Raya festive period, reflecting the rapid expansion of Malaysia’s digital economy.
The strong performance was driven by the #JomLokal campaign and increased brand exposure through TikTok Shop Mall, supported by a RM20 million stimulus package under the #JomLokal Booster initiative.
TikTok Shop Malaysia’s Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships, Nur Azre Abdul Aziz, said the growth in premium brand sales indicates a clear rise in consumer confidence towards the platform.
He noted that sustained investment in platform safety has been a key factor, with nearly US$1 billion committed globally to enhance protection for buyers, sellers, and affiliate creators.
Since its introduction in September 2025, the #JomLokal Booster programme has benefited more than 5,000 SMEs through commission fee exemptions, helping businesses reduce costs and scale operations more effectively.
The initiative also focused on capability building, including 14 training workshops attended by over 1,000 new sellers.
In addition, business matching efforts have enabled more than 1,000 affiliate creators to promote local products, expanding market reach.
From a governance perspective, TikTok Shop has enforced strict compliance measures, rejecting more than 70 million product listings globally between January and June 2025 for policy violations.
Around 1.4 million seller account applications were also denied for failing to meet platform standards, reinforcing efforts to maintain a safe and trustworthy ecosystem.
The #ShopSafe campaign, launched in April 2025, further supports consumer awareness by promoting safe online shopping practices.
Overall, the surge in sales underscores the growing role of digital platforms in empowering SMEs and driving broader economic growth in Malaysia.
