Year of the Horse 2026: PM Anwar Pledges Stronger Policies and Greater Efforts to Benefit All Malaysians
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 17 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has pledged that the government will intensify its efforts and introduce stronger policies to ensure Malaysians from all backgrounds can prosper, as the nation welcomes the Year of the Horse.
He said the government remains committed to building an inclusive and progressive Malaysia where economic growth and opportunities are shared across society.
Speaking at a Chinese New Year celebration in Kuala Lumpur, Anwar expressed confidence in the country’s economic direction while emphasising the importance of collective responsibility.
Positive economic momentum boosts national confidence
The prime minister noted that Malaysia’s current economic performance reflects resilience and determination, qualities symbolised by the horse in Chinese culture.
He said the encouraging growth demonstrates the country’s potential, but stressed that sustained progress will require continued effort from both the government and the people.
According to Anwar, national success depends on unity and cooperation, especially in addressing challenges that affect society.
He said Malaysians must remain committed to working together to strengthen the country’s future.
Unity remains foundation of national strength
Anwar highlighted the importance of unity by recalling the leadership of Malaysia’s early prime ministers, who worked to bring the nation together despite differences.
He said the spirit of togetherness must continue to guide Malaysia as it moves forward.
He emphasised that diversity should be seen as a strength rather than a weakness, and that cooperation is essential for national development.
The government, he added, will continue to take necessary steps to preserve harmony and stability.
Government to safeguard cultural heritage
During the event, Anwar also announced plans to preserve the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall building as a national heritage site.
He said the government recognises the historical importance of the building and will work with relevant authorities to protect it.
The hall, which has stood for more than nine decades, remains a symbol of the Chinese community’s contribution to Malaysia.
Anwar said preserving such landmarks is part of the government’s broader commitment to protecting the country’s heritage.
Shared effort key to future success
The prime minister urged Malaysians to embrace the spirit of perseverance associated with the Year of the Horse.
He said the government will continue working to strengthen policies and improve the well-being of the people.
Anwar expressed optimism that Malaysia can achieve greater success if its people remain united and determined.
He added that with shared commitment and cooperation, the country is well positioned to move forward with confidence and stability.
