BUTTERWORTH — The man detained over a devastating house fire that resulted in the deaths of his mother and adopted younger sibling in Taman Rathna, Telok Air Tawar earlier this month will be charged in Butterworth Court tomorrow.
Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail confirmed that the suspect will be formally charged on Friday in connection with the tragic incident.
The December 10 blaze destroyed about 85 per cent of the semi-detached home. Rescue teams later discovered the charred remains of Hayani Yaakob, aged in her 50s, and her five-year-old adopted child Andra, in the living room near the main doorway.
Another victim, a man in his 20s, survived but was injured and is being treated in the ICU at Seberang Jaya Hospital.
Firefighters managed to control the blaze within roughly half an hour and completely extinguished it a little over an hour later.
The case, which drew significant public attention due to its tragic nature, is now moving towards the legal process as investigations near completion.
