Sky Iskandar Steps Into Global Arena with Hunter 11: The Awaken
JOHOR BAHRU: Malaysian actor Sky Iskandar has described his starring role in Hunter 11: The Awaken as a transformative chapter in his career, marked by the opportunity to collaborate with internationally respected martial arts performers.
Cast as Noah, a complex lead character, Sky said working alongside Indonesian silat star Yayan Ruhian and Chinese Shaolin expert Shi Yanneng pushed him to elevate his craft.
“Sharing the screen with them was both humbling and motivating. Their discipline and experience set a very high standard,” he said at a media session held at Iskandar Malaysia Studios.
Learning through experience
Sky said the production offered valuable exposure beyond acting, allowing him to observe the work ethic and techniques of performers who have built global reputations.
“They are not just skilled, but also very grounded. That left a strong impression on me,” he said.
A role that demands more than action
Under the direction of Frank See, Sky’s character is a former intelligence operative forced into hiding after a personal loss, requiring a mix of emotional depth and tactical precision.
Unlike conventional action roles, the part emphasised strategic movement and the use of firearms — a new experience for the actor.
“The use of blank rounds added realism to the scenes. It was intense but necessary for authenticity,” he said.
To prepare, he underwent structured physical training, including endurance conditioning with weighted gear.
Minor incident during filming
Sky also revealed he was involved in a minor motorcycle accident during the filming period, sustaining a slight injury that did not interrupt production.
Production nearing completion
With an estimated budget of RM20 million, Hunter 11: The Awaken revolves around a military probe into the disappearance of elite operatives.
Filming began in Langkawi before moving to Kuala Lumpur and Johor for key sequences. The film is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2027 under GSC Movies.
