Sack Rafizi? Anwar Urges Calm, Says Economic Priorities Must Come First
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister and Parti Keadilan Rakyat president Anwar Ibrahim has downplayed questions surrounding Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli’s position within the party, stressing that national economic concerns should take precedence over internal disputes.
Speaking to reporters after Friday prayers in Cheras, Anwar called for restraint and urged all parties to remain focused on broader issues affecting the country.
“I think everyone should remain calm. Our priority should be addressing economic challenges, not personal matters,” he said.
His remarks come in response to ongoing attention surrounding Rafizi Ramli, who recently challenged the party to take action against him, including dismissal, if he is found to have breached party rules.
Internal Disciplinary Issue Under Review
The situation follows reports that Rafizi received a second show-cause letter from the party’s disciplinary board, chaired by Datuk Zainol Samah.
The letter reportedly cited concerns over statements made by Rafizi that were deemed detrimental to the party’s image, including criticisms directed at leadership and comments involving public institutions.
Among the allegations are remarks suggesting dissatisfaction with leadership expectations, as well as claims that certain statements could undermine public confidence in the party.
Rafizi has maintained that he is prepared to face disciplinary action, including expulsion, should the party determine that he has violated its code of conduct.
Leadership Approach Aims to Maintain Stability
Observers note that Anwar’s measured response reflects a broader effort to prevent internal tensions from escalating and affecting political stability.
Rather than engaging directly with the controversy, he has chosen to emphasise the importance of unity and focus on governance priorities.
Political analysts suggest this approach is intended to avoid internal divisions that could weaken public confidence in the administration.
It also signals a deliberate effort to keep policy implementation on track without distraction from intra-party disputes.
Economic Challenges Take Centre Stage
Malaysia is currently navigating a range of economic challenges, including inflationary pressures, global market uncertainties, and rising living costs.
In this context, Anwar stressed that the government’s attention must remain on addressing these issues to safeguard public welfare.
He also highlighted the importance of political stability in supporting economic growth and maintaining investor confidence.
The development underscores a leadership stance that prioritises national interests over internal political disagreements, reflecting a focus on ensuring continuity in governance and economic management.
