Rahmah Ramadan Bazaars Expand Nationwide to 116 Locations

Offering Affordable Meals to Malaysians

JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 20 — The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has significantly expanded its Rahmah Ramadan Bazaar initiative this year, increasing its reach to 116 locations nationwide in a continued effort to help Malaysians cope with rising living costs.

The programme, introduced under the Rahmah initiative, aims to ensure that affordable food options remain accessible throughout the fasting month, particularly for families seeking budget-friendly iftar meals.

Steady Growth Reflects Strong Public Response

Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the expansion highlights the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting the public.

She noted that the programme started modestly in 2023 with 41 locations before growing to 62, then 103, and now reaching 116 locations across Malaysia.

This year, approximately 3,000 traders are participating, offering a wide range of meals priced at RM5 or below, making it easier for consumers to manage their Ramadan expenses.

The initiative also provides valuable income opportunities for small traders and food vendors during the festive period.

Affordable Food Access for All Communities

The Rahmah Ramadan Bazaar ensures that visitors have access to a variety of food options at reasonable prices without compromising quality.

Fuziah encouraged traders to diversify their menu offerings to cater to different tastes and preferences, ensuring that everyone can benefit from the programme.

The initiative has become an important support mechanism, especially for those facing financial challenges.

Food Rescue Initiative Benefits Community and Environment

Beyond affordability, the programme also contributes to sustainability efforts through the MySaveFood initiative, now rebranded as Ihsan Food Bank.

Last year alone, over 69,000 kilograms of surplus food worth more than RM833,000 were successfully redistributed to those in need.

This effort not only prevented food wastage but also helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 129,000 kilograms.

The programme operates through collaboration with local authorities, volunteers and community organisations to ensure food reaches vulnerable groups.

Government Strengthens Support During Ramadan

The Rahmah Ramadan Bazaar reflects the government’s broader strategy to ease the financial burden on Malaysians while promoting social responsibility and community care.

As the programme continues to grow, it reinforces its role as a key initiative supporting both consumers and small businesses during one of the most important periods in the Muslim calendar.
