Rafizi Hints At ‘Extraordinary’ Political Announcement This Sunday

PUTRAJAYA: Rafizi Ramli has hinted that the political direction announcement he plans to make this Sunday could carry major implications for the country’s political landscape and trigger widespread speculation.

The former Economy Minister, however, remained tight-lipped about the details and declined to elaborate further when approached by reporters today.

According to the Pandan Member of Parliament, the announcement to be made together with Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad would not be an ordinary political statement similar to those commonly shared through social media platforms.

“If it were just a normal announcement, I could simply post it on TikTok. But this announcement is extraordinary,” he said after completing an additional voluntary statement session at the headquarters of the Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (MACC) in Putrajaya today.

Earlier, Rafizi announced that he and the Setiawangsa Member of Parliament would unveil their new political direction during an event in Petaling Jaya, Selangor this Sunday.

The upcoming announcement is expected to end weeks of speculation surrounding the political future of both leaders following their resignations from the Cabinet.

Rafizi previously stepped down as Economy Minister effective June 17 last year, while Nik Nazmi also resigned as Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability on the same day.

When asked about rumours suggesting that he and Nik Nazmi may leave Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Rafizi chose to remain evasive and avoided giving a direct answer.

According to him, the uncertainty surrounding the matter has helped sustain public and media interest ahead of the official announcement this weekend.

“It is definitely an advantage for politicians like me to keep the public and the media wondering until Sunday.

“The skill is to ensure people continue making assumptions and speculating,” he said.

Rafizi also declined to comment on speculation that other political figures may follow his path or on claims that alternative political coalitions had approached him.

“If I answer now, the suspense disappears. Let’s wait until Sunday because we cannot talk about coalitions or anything else before everything becomes clear,” he said.

Earlier today, Rafizi spent more than two hours at the MACC headquarters to provide additional statements and submit documents related to investigations into the RM1.1 billion investment agreement involving the Ministry of Economy and Arm Holdings.

The MACC previously confirmed that 22 witnesses had been called to assist investigations into the case.

The latest developments involving Rafizi and Nik Nazmi are drawing intense attention from political observers amid growing speculation over potential major shifts within Malaysia’s political landscape ahead of the next general election.
