PU Riz Calls on Muslims to Actively Uphold Moral Responsibility in Society

KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 — Preacher and media personality Muhammad Haris Ismail has urged Muslims to take an active role in preventing wrongdoing, particularly when it is carried out openly within society.

His remarks follow discussions surrounding a recent event in Bukit Bintang, which raised concerns about the limits of entertainment and the preservation of moral values in public life.

According to him, activities that involve elements of immorality should not be dismissed or ignored, but addressed responsibly in line with Islamic teachings.

“In Islam, individuals are taught to respond when they witness wrongdoing — through action if possible, through words if necessary, and at the very least through rejection in their hearts,” he said.

He explained that this principle serves as a foundation for maintaining social order and moral awareness within the community.

He added that indifference towards wrongdoing could gradually lead to its acceptance as normal behaviour.

At the same time, he stressed that openly committed acts of wrongdoing carry broader consequences than those done in private.

Such actions, he said, do not only affect individuals but also shape societal attitudes and behaviours.

“When wrongdoing is displayed openly, it can influence others and weaken the moral sensitivity of society,” he said.

He also reminded Muslims of the importance of modesty and humility, urging individuals not to take pride in actions that contradict religious values.

In addition, he cautioned against prioritising worldly gains over spiritual responsibilities.

He emphasised that maintaining a balance between material success and spiritual well-being is essential for a stable and meaningful life.

“Worldly benefits should never come at the expense of core values and principles,” he said.

He concluded by highlighting that a prosperous society is built not only on economic or physical development, but also on strong moral foundations.

According to him, lasting harmony and blessings can only be achieved when individuals collectively uphold values and avoid actions that lead to moral decline.

“True well-being comes from preserving values and preventing harm within the community,” he said.
