Proton Introduces e.MAS 7 PHEV, Electric-First SUV Offering Over 1,200km Range from RM105,800
SHAH ALAM — National automaker Proton has officially unveiled its latest model, the e.MAS 7 PHEV, a plug-in hybrid SUV designed around an “electric-first” philosophy to support Malaysia’s growing transition towards sustainable mobility.
The new model is priced from RM105,800, positioning it as one of the most accessible plug-in hybrid SUVs in the local market.
The launch reflects Proton’s commitment to electrification, prioritising electric driving for daily commuting while using the petrol engine mainly for extended journeys.
Proven Real-World Performance
To demonstrate its real-world capability, Proton conducted a long-distance test drive covering 1,104.5 kilometres from Penang to Johor Bahru and back to Subang Jaya using only one tank of fuel and one full battery charge.
With 189 kilometres still remaining, the test confirmed a total achievable range exceeding 1,200 kilometres, highlighting the vehicle’s high efficiency.
PRO-NET CEO Zhang Qiang said the model delivers practical electric mobility without limiting long-distance freedom.
He added that the e.MAS 7 PHEV is designed to make electric-first driving more accessible to Malaysian consumers.
Pricing Structure and Launch Incentives
The e.MAS 7 PHEV is offered in three variants. The Prime variant starts at RM105,800, providing essential features and strong performance. The Premium variant, priced at RM119,800, adds advanced driver assistance systems and enhanced comfort. The Premium Plus variant, at RM125,800, features extended range, faster charging and a panoramic sunroof.
Early buyers will receive a RM4,000 launch rebate and a “Five Power Packs” package worth up to RM7,500, including a free home charger, five years of internet data and trade-in rebates.
Owners of vehicles over 20 years old may also qualify for an additional RM4,000 under the government’s replacement scheme.
Intelligent Hybrid Technology
At the core of the vehicle is the EM-i Drive System, which manages power delivery intelligently.
For urban driving, it operates in pure electric mode. On highways and inclines, it automatically combines electric and petrol power. A Power mode is available for enhanced acceleration.
The vehicle uses a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, known for durability and suitability for tropical climates.
Cost Efficiency and Premium Design
Proton estimates that fuel and maintenance costs over 10 years will be around RM29,200, significantly lower than conventional SUVs.
In terms of design, the e.MAS 7 PHEV features full-width LED light bars, 19-inch alloy wheels, and a modern exterior. Inside, it offers a minimalist cabin with a panoramic sunroof, 16-speaker audio system and ergonomic leatherette seats.
The SUV comes with a six-year unlimited mileage warranty and an eight-year or 160,000km warranty for high-voltage components.
With this launch, Proton aims to strengthen its presence in the new energy vehicle segment and accelerate Malaysia’s shift towards greener transportation.
