Police Probe Ex-Minister’s Wife Over Alleged Government Ouster Plot Involving UK, US Lobbyists and Foreign Media
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 — Police are investigating the wife of a former minister following allegations of involvement in a plot linked to attempts to topple the current government and destabilise the country’s political landscape, reportedly involving foreign lobbyists and international media organisations.
The investigation began after a police report was filed in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, claiming that a prominent Malaysian family had engaged overseas public relations firms.
According to the report, discussions allegedly included plans to utilise at least five international media organisations to exert pressure on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the chief commissioner of the Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia, Tan Sri Azam Baki.
The alleged pressure was believed to be related to influencing ongoing investigations.
The report also claimed that professional lobbyists from several countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States, were engaged to support the alleged efforts.
Such lobbying activities are commonly used to influence policy decisions and international narratives.
Inspector-General of Police Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed that police have received the report and investigations are ongoing.
He said the case is being handled by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit under the Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman.
The investigation is being conducted under Section 124B of the Penal Code, which relates to activities that threaten parliamentary democracy.
He urged the public to avoid speculation while authorities complete their investigation.
He said the police will carefully examine all evidence before reaching any conclusions.
The case has drawn widespread attention due to its potential impact on national political stability.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the validity of the allegations and identify those involved.
