
Police Confirm Suspect Was Intoxicated in Viral Petaling Jaya Convenience Store Brawl
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 1, 2026 — Police have confirmed that the suspect involved in a viral convenience store fight in Petaling Jaya was believed to be intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Petaling Jaya district police chief Shamsudin Mamat said a police report was lodged by the store employee at 3.26pm shortly after the altercation took place.
He said preliminary investigations found that the suspect entered the premises in an unstable condition before harassing the employee, which later escalated into a physical confrontation.
“The incident resulted in injuries to those involved as well as damage to property inside the store,” he said in an official statement.
Shamsudin added that the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
He said police would apply for an Order to Investigate (OTI) to facilitate a more comprehensive inquiry.
“The suspect and relevant witnesses will be called in to have their statements recorded to assist in the investigation,” he said.
He also urged members of the public to refrain from spreading inaccurate information or engaging in speculation on social media, as such actions could interfere with ongoing investigations.
According to him, the circulation of unverified content may create misunderstandings and disrupt public order.
Members of the public who have information related to the incident are encouraged to come forward and assist the authorities.
The viral footage showed two men grappling near the payment counter of a convenience store in front of several customers, drawing widespread attention online.
Police stressed that the investigation will be conducted professionally and transparently to ensure appropriate action is taken in accordance with the law.
