NTIS proves Malaysian technology can penetrate global markets and win industry trust

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14, 2026 – The National Technology and Innovation Sandbox (NTIS) programme continues to demonstrate its effectiveness in accelerating Malaysian innovations from concept stage to real-world industry adoption and international expansion.

Introduced under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), the sandbox approach has transformed how local innovators develop and validate their technologies. Instead of stopping at laboratory prototypes, companies are now required to test their solutions in real operational environments before entering the market.

MRANTI Chief Executive Officer Ashran Datuk Ghazi said the shift has significantly strengthened Malaysia’s innovation ecosystem.

According to him, prior to NTIS, many participants entered programmes with early-stage ideas. Today, innovators are expected to provide real-world proof of use, ensuring that the technology developed directly addresses genuine industry and societal needs.

He noted that testing in sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, mobility and security allows technologies to be validated under actual working conditions, increasing confidence among industry players.

This real-world validation, he said, is critical in securing industry adoption, as stakeholders are more inclined to support solutions that have been practically tested rather than merely conceptualised.

Alumni record multi-million dollar export success

The impact of NTIS is evident in the success stories of its alumni.

Billion Prima Sdn. Bhd. General Manager Lee Yuh Jiunn said participation in NTIS enhanced the company’s credibility among international clients, particularly customs authorities and security agencies.

He revealed that the company’s cargo X-ray scanners have successfully penetrated neighbouring export markets, generating revenue exceeding US$25 million over several years.

Recognition under NTIS provided assurance to overseas customers that the products met established standards and had undergone structured validation.

Meanwhile, Renewcell (M) Sdn. Bhd. Chief Executive Officer Danesh Anandan said NTIS facilitated clearer engagement with regulators regarding the company’s battery regeneration services.

Through structured discussions enabled by the sandbox platform, the company was able to address regulatory concerns and demonstrate that regenerated batteries can be safely reused, accelerating commercial adoption.

In the geospatial technology space, myspatial Sdn. Bhd. Executive Director Mohd. Azuar Yaakub highlighted that the company’s GIS-based solutions are now actively used in plantation management and security operations.

By integrating satellite and drone data under NTIS support, the technology has improved operational efficiency, digital monitoring and strategic decision-making.

Overall, NTIS has emerged as a critical platform bridging innovators, regulators and industry players, reinforcing Malaysia’s position not merely as a technology consumer but as a competitive global technology producer.
