No Leadership Changes in Home Ministry Enforcement Agencies Yet, Says Saifuddin

KUALA LUMPUR: No heads of enforcement agencies under the Home Ministry have been reassigned so far, despite a stern warning from the prime minister on accountability, said Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said there has been no leadership reshuffle involving agencies under his ministry to date.

“So far, there have been no changes involving Home Ministry agencies,” he said when contacted by the media.

However, Saifuddin stressed that the ministry has taken proactive steps by holding separate meetings with the heads of key enforcement bodies to reinforce the prime minister’s message.

These agencies include the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, the Prison Department, and the Immigration Department.

He said the discussions focused on gathering feedback, identifying operational weaknesses, and ensuring that accountability and integrity are embedded in daily enforcement activities.

“These engagements are meant to ensure that the prime minister’s call for responsibility is translated into concrete action on the ground,” he said.

On January 28, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim issued a firm warning to senior enforcement officials, giving them one week to confirm their readiness to carry out their duties or face possible reassignment or demotion.

Anwar also expressed frustration over persistent gaps in enforcement systems that could undermine national security and public confidence.

Responding to the warning, Saifuddin said the Home Ministry is strengthening internal monitoring mechanisms, performance reviews, and operational audits.

He added that the current focus is on institutional reform and performance improvement rather than immediate leadership changes.

Security analysts view this approach as an effort to stabilise enforcement institutions while promoting long-term accountability and professionalism.

The government is expected to continue evaluating the effectiveness of enforcement agencies to ensure transparency, efficiency, and public trust are maintained.
