MySTEP Staff Dismissed Over Fraud Targeting Medical Officers, RM47,120 Loss Reported

PETALING JAYA: Hospital Tunku Azizah (HTA) has taken firm action by dismissing a MySTEP personnel allegedly involved in a fraud scheme targeting graduate medical officers (PPS), which resulted in losses totaling RM47,120.

In a statement issued by the hospital, management confirmed that the termination was carried out immediately upon discovering the alleged misconduct. The individual has also been completely barred from accessing hospital systems and facilities as a precautionary measure to protect institutional data and operational integrity.

HTA emphasized that the personnel had no authority to handle financial matters at any point during their employment. The hospital reiterated that all official payments must strictly follow established procedures and should never be directed to personal accounts.

“No staff member is permitted to collect payments or process financial transactions through personal means for official matters, including reimbursements or training-related fees,” the statement said.

The incident is believed to have affected around 190 graduate medical officers, raising concerns within the medical community, particularly among young doctors undergoing training. In response, the hospital organized face-to-face engagement sessions with those impacted to gather detailed information and better understand how the fraud was carried out.

The collected data will assist ongoing investigations, as HTA confirmed that a police report has already been filed. Authorities are currently investigating the case.

The hospital also assured that it will fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure a comprehensive, transparent, and fair investigation process.

At the same time, HTA reiterated its strict stance against any breach of integrity or involvement in criminal activity among its workforce. Such behavior, it stressed, will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

“We remain committed to safeguarding our staff and maintaining a trustworthy working environment. The dedication shown by our graduate medical officers is invaluable, and we will not allow irresponsible actions to undermine their welfare,” the statement added.
