MTDC–Tradeview Quantum Fund Launched to Accelerate Malaysia’s Technology Investment Ecosystem

KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 — Malaysia has strengthened its technology investment ecosystem with the launch of a new public-private investment fund spearheaded by Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC).

The fund, named the MTDC Tradeview Quantum Fund, was created through a strategic collaboration between MTDC and Tradeview Capital Sdn. Bhd. to support the growth and commercialisation of emerging technology companies in the country.

The initiative represents MTDC’s first public-private investment vehicle and is designed to accelerate the development of innovative Malaysian startups.

The fund was officially launched in Kuala Lumpur by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang.

The partnership follows the signing of a joint venture agreement between MTDC and Tradeview Capital, which also led to the formation of a new fund management company, Modal Lestari Sdn. Bhd..

Under the agreement, both partners hold equal ownership in the venture with an initial capital commitment of RM20 million.

MTDC Group Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Hazani Hassan said the initiative represents a new model of collaboration between government-linked institutions and private investment firms.

According to him, MTDC contributes deep technological expertise and experience in supporting early-stage technology ventures, while Tradeview Capital offers strong capabilities in capital markets and investment networks.

“This partnership enables us to better understand the journey of technology companies from development to commercialisation. With the right funding ecosystem, we can accelerate their ability to bring innovative technologies to market,” he said.

Hazani added that the collaboration also gives technology startups access to wider investor networks and strategic market insights.

This approach allows companies to plan their growth strategies more effectively, including potential investment exit pathways.

Through the fund management company Modal Lestari, the MTDC Tradeview Quantum Fund will focus primarily on early-stage and Series A investments.

Key sectors targeted for investment include semiconductors, Industry 4.0 technologies, industrial manufacturing, green energy solutions, food technology, agricultural technology and financial technology.

The initiative aligns with broader efforts by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Malaysia) to strengthen Malaysia’s technology financing ecosystem.

By combining institutional capital with private-sector fund management expertise, the programme aims to accelerate the growth of high-potential technology companies.

Statistics from the Department of Statistics Malaysia indicate that more than 3,000 organisations across the country are involved in research and development activities.

These organisations collectively employ over 1.1 million individuals in roles related to innovation, technology development and industrial research.

As a leading technology development agency, MTDC continues to play a key role in nurturing innovative companies through strategic funding programmes and business development initiatives.

The organisation also helps connect local technological innovations with global investors and markets.

The launch of the MTDC Tradeview Quantum Fund is expected to further strengthen Malaysia’s position as a regional innovation hub while expanding funding opportunities for technology startups.

Through stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors, the initiative is set to support the growth of Malaysia’s technology ecosystem and enhance the country’s competitiveness in the global digital economy.
